RENOVATION OF OUR HOSTEL FOR GIRLS
With the permission from the bishop of Thrissur diocese, then his lordship Mar Joseph Kundukulam, our sisters started a community in 1972 in the Diocese. The purpose of this community was to help with the formation of the faithful in their faith, a family apostolate and some social activities. Soon after, girls started to join this community, and it became the formation community.
In 1977, a centre was established for sewing and producing liturgical items like altar cloths, vestments, capes and many others for worship. The centre accepted poor girls who wished to learn how to sew.
With the help of some benefactors, in 2002, another convent was built nearby because a new need and apostolate was possible for us in Olarikara. The sisters transferred themselves to the new building while the old one became a hostel for girls. The sewing centre was not bringing enough money for the maintenance of the community and the formation of many girls who knocked at our door. The purpose of the hostel was to help our Community to be self-supporting.
All was to be running according to God's plans. Unfortunately, we had to close the hostel because of covid-19 in 2020. We wanted to reopen it in 2022, but the needs of girls and society made it impossible for us to use the building in its current state. We now need to upgrade our buildings to meet current needs.
We appeal to your generosity and kind hearts because our community cannot finance the renewal and upgrade of our hostel in Olarikara district in Thrissur, in Kerala state in India.
The hostel enables the Sisters to have a regular income for their personal needs i.e. food and medicine for our older sisters etc. Our hostel has provided us with a regular income for our needs, for that, the upgrade of the Hostel is essential.
